Wait, do you realize which OPEC countries are mainly hurting by this move?  Nigeria and Iran.

Sadly, no one gives a rats ass about Nigeria, so you are probably 100% correct they are getting screwed.  However, Iran... to affect them monetarily is a benefit to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the US for a number reasons.  A little known reason for war with Iraq was Saddam defied OPEC contract and started selling oil in non-dollars.  We put a stop to that quick.  Iran did the same thing, quietly, about a year later.  You may remember during the W years he tried a couple times to get the support to go after Iran even though there was no seemingly logical reason for it: that was why.

They still sell in non-dollars (the real threat), they have an alleged nuclear program we don't like, they support the groups that stand up to Israel, they are Shiite... yeah, hurting them is win for all the players in this game.

The oil corps and OPEC countries that play ball with the US can afford this (unless they are full of black people, but sadly, we all know in the eyes of government and big business those people don't count).  Seems the game has changed from price gouging 'cause we can' to something a little more sinister, and a little more desperate.

Allegedly, in my opinion, of course.
