Here are the preliminary rules and story for my for my 'city' game.
Stats - 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 10 or 17, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
Level 1
All 3.5 books.
Any alignment(with the caveat that family comes first and you will do everything you can to help your family. Murdering a rival lord in cold blood could do more harm than good to your family. Planning an 'accident' is perfectly acceptable as long as it isn't tracked back to your family.) While it may seem like this is perfect for an evil game I don't want it to be 'evil' just political. Game of thrones!
Almost any class, we aren't going to use the tier system, so wizards/clerics/druids/psions are available. But classes that have a strong loyalty built in that can be at odds with family loyalty should be avoided. I'm thinking paladins for example.
Spells are limited to the PHB1(some exceptions can be made) only or whichever book the classes is from.
There are no more cross-class skills but skills that are better with certain class features are still there. Disable device for example. A ranger can put 20 ranks into it but will never be able to disarm magic traps as it states rogues or class with trapfinding is required to disarm magic traps.
Everyone gets 2+ con modifier in 'healing surges'. You get this many chances per day to roll your total Hit dice to heal yourself but only out of combat. In-combat requires 2 charges.(I'm really trying to minimize the need of a 'healer' without eliminating it.)
***New*** Everyone starts with 2 skill ranks in Ride, appraise, diplomacy, sense motive, knowledge local, knowledge nobility, survive, and swim. And 2 skill points in any other knowledge and 2 skillpoints in any other skill I didn't already list. But these 2 extra skills need to have a backstory/RP reason.
Max HP at first and for level 2 and 3 when you gain them.
Please roll your starting gold. This will be your pocket money to start with.

- The main setting will be a city called Syri Dar
- Fairly standard medieval fantasy setting
- Nobility is hereditary or by marriage
- Merchants and the like can become rich and powerful but only nobles can own land
- The city is is ruled by a council of the 20 most powerful nobles. Powerful is a relative term and can be military or economic based.
- The King is the one noble who is able to convince 2/3s of the other nobles to support their claim to the throne.
- Everyone will be part of the same family. A nephew of the current patriarch.
- Your family had a well off shipping/merchant business and was one of the most prosperous merchants in the city.
- The patriarch of the family, well into his 60s has just married the very young(18ish) daughter of a noble family.
- The noble family had land and soldiers, and your family had the money and connections.
- This has catapulted your family into the nobility and has become the recognized 19th most powerful house.
- Your goal is the advancement of your family, through any means you desire.
House Atreyuu
Roedal Atreyuu(the patriarch) inherited his first river barge, the Snowflake, from his father at the age of 22. While his father was a good sailor, his lack of financial savvy kept him from striking it rich.
Fast forward 40 years. Roedal is now the head of a powerful merchant noble family. House Atreyuu operates a shipping business that employees dozens of river barges and half as many sailing ships with business offices in 4 major port cities. Roedal married the grandaughter of House Aimlan acquiring a much coveted noble title. House Atreyuu, with its new acquired nobility, has become the owner of several parcels of land and other property. Within its first 6 months as part of the 'noble' community House Atreyuu backed the new king, Asalam Sredit, with money. After Asalam's ascension, he rewarded House Atreyuu handsomely. This has propelled House Atreyuu to be viewed as the 18th most powerful house. But achievement comes at a price, House Spiritu, Jandwin, Colavare, and Daigon are now the 20th, 19th, 17th, 16th most powerful houses, respectively, and all initially supported Asalam's rival, They now view House Atreyuu as a threat. House Atreyuu has the upper hand with financial resources but are extremely lacking compared to military might and other resources. You have come of age during this time period and as family you have now become part of the noble class and your Uncle and parents have tapped you as the next generation of House Atreyuu and to help Atreyuu survive.
Send me your characters and some ideas for backstory and personality and things like that and I'll make them all mix.
